BANISH 556 vs BANISH VRMT 223 Ti: Which One Should You Choose?

Yesterday on Day 90, we looked at the BANISH VRMT 223 Ti,  a lightweight, versatile suppressor well-suited for varmint hunting, range use, and general shooting. Today, we’re comparing it head-to-head with the BANISH 556, a more robust option designed for harder use.
If you’re trying to decide between these two .556 suppressors, here’s a clear breakdown to help you choose the right one for your needs.

Weight & Handling

The BANISH VRMT 223 Ti is significantly lighter at just 9.7 ounces. This makes a noticeable difference on the end of your rifle, especially during long days of hiking or high-volume shooting. It’s the clear winner if you prioritize keeping your rifle as light and maneuverable as possible.
The BANISH 556 weighs 15.6 ounces, which is noticeably heavier. However, it’s slightly shorter (6.3″), which can help with overall balance on some setups.

Durability & Construction

This is where the two suppressors diverge the most.
The BANISH 556 is built for hard use. It features a more robust Inconel and stainless steel construction designed to handle sustained fire and higher heat. It’s the better choice if you plan to shoot a lot of rounds quickly or want maximum durability.
The BANISH VRMT 223 Ti uses a full titanium construction with a removable 8-baffle stack. While very strong for its weight, it’s not built to the same level of abuse as the 556. It’s better suited for normal to high-volume shooting rather than extreme sustained fire.

Sound Performance

The BANISH VRMT 223 Ti is the quieter of the two. In testing, it delivered excellent sound reduction (around 35 dB), bringing a .223 on a 20-inch barrel down to 125.7 dB. This makes it very pleasant to shoot and allows you to better hear bullet impacts.
The BANISH 556 also offers strong sound suppression, but it doesn’t quite match the VRMT 223 Ti in raw decibel reduction. However, the difference is relatively small in real-world use.Winner: VRMT 223 Ti (noticeably quieter)

Full-Auto Rating

This is one of the biggest differentiators:

  • The BANISH 556 is full-auto rated with no major restrictions. It’s built to handle rapid fire and high heat without issues.
  • The BANISH VRMT 223 Ti is only limited full-auto rated, meaning it can handle short bursts but isn’t designed for prolonged automatic fire.

If you train with rapid fire, compete in certain disciplines, or want a suppressor for a home defense rifle that might see heavy use, the 556 has a clear advantage.Winner: BANISH 556

Maintenance & Serviceability

The BANISH VRMT 223 Ti has a major advantage here. Its user-serviceable design with removable baffles makes cleaning much easier — especially useful if you shoot a lot of dirty ammo or switch between centerfire and rimfire.
The BANISH 556 has a more traditional fixed design, which is generally less user-friendly to clean but requires less frequent maintenance due to its robust construction.

Who Should Choose Which?

Choose the BANISH VRMT 223 Ti if:

  • You want the lightest possible suppressor
  • You primarily shoot for hunting (coyotes, prairie dogs, etc.) or range use
  • You value easy cleaning and serviceability
  • You want maximum sound reduction
  • You shoot mostly semi-auto and don’t need full-auto capability

Choose the BANISH 556 if:

  • You want maximum durability and heat resistance
  • You train with high round counts or rapid fire
  • You want a suppressor for home defense or tactical use
  • You’re okay with a heavier suppressor in exchange for ruggedness
  • You want true full-auto capability

Final Verdict

Both suppressors are fantastic and this article is not really meant to say one is better than the other because that’s really not the case. It comes down to what the end users use case is and what they value the most. Yesterday we talked about how one suppressor was a jack of all trades type suppressor that was good for a bunch of different things, but was not the best at any one thing. Versus today where this presser is good at one particular thing of being robust. Really if choosing a suppressor, you need to look at what your goals are and what the use case of the suppressor is, and which one meets and checks off most of those needs but either way you go with either suppressor you’re gonna have one of the best suppressors made in the industry.
