The 59th Day of Silence: BANISH 46-V2 the Lightweight King of Big-Bore Suppressors?

The 59th Day of Silence: BANISH 46-V2 the Lightweight King of Big-Bore Suppressors?

Day 59 of Silencer Central’s 100 Days of Silence — win the BANISH 46-V2 suppressor (MSRP $1,229). Today on the 59th Day of Silence we examine its real-world performance on cartridges like the .45-70 and .450 Bushmaster, highlighting it’s excellent recoil control and easy maintenance, and explain why it earns strong marks as one of the most practical “do-all” options in its class. Entry for The 59th Day of Silence opens at 10:00 AM CT and closes at 10:00 PM CT on June 14, 2026, for U.S. residents 21 and older outside restricted states. All giveaways require a separate entry.

The suppressor market has seen a clear trend toward lighter, more compact designs without sacrificing too much performance. This is especially tru for big-bore applications. BANISH’s line has long been popular for its titanium construction and user-serviceable design, but the original BANISH 46 was on the heavier and longer side for its capabilities which left some asking if it coulee be made better?
Enter the BANISH 46-V2. It’s a common sense evolution. With the same big-bore capability, but significantly lighter, shorter, and more maneuverable. The big question is whether this new version earns the title of “lightweight king” for .45-70, .450 Bushmaster, .338 Lapua, and similar cartridges.
Here’s my in-depth look based on manufacturer specs, published hands-on testing, and real-user feedback.

Design & Build Quality

The V2 is noticeably more compact than its predecessor. It’s 7 ounces lighter than the original’s short configuration and almost a full pound lighter than the long one. The diameter is also slimmer (1.59″ vs 1.73″).

Key engineering choices:

  • Full titanium construction for weight savings and strength.
  • A single 17-4 stainless steel blast baffle to handle the extreme heat and pressure of big-bore cartridges.
  • Stifle™ baffles that are keyed/indexed and can be reassembled in any order.
  • Can-Clean™ technology meaning a tool-free disassembly for easy maintenance.

The result is a suppressor that feels premium and purposeful. It ships with the popular HUB mount interface, giving users flexibility to add quick-detach adapters later if desired.

Performance

Sound Suppression

BANISH rates the 46-V2 at 30 dB reduction. This is slightly less than the original’s best-case long configuration (up to ~34 dB), but real-world testing shows it’s still very effective for big-bore use.
In hands-on testing by American Hunter, reviewer Frank Melloni noted:

“Overall sound suppression was outstanding. Not only was I able to maintain comfort without any ear protection, but firing the gun barely disturbed the conversation at the range!”

Users on lever-action .44 Mag and .45-70 platforms consistently describe the report as “sneaky quiet” or “a growl instead of a bark.” It’s not the absolute quietest .46-cal can on the market, but the trade-off for dramatically better weight and length is worthwhile for most shooters.

Recoil & Shootability

Big-bore suppressors shine here, and the 46-V2 is no exception. Multiple users report significantly reduced recoil and muzzle rise, making follow-up shots faster and more accurate,  especially valuable for hunting.

Accuracy & First-Round Pop
My testing showed minimal first-round pop and excellent cold-bore performance with only a 2.75-inch shift at 100yrds in a 10-shot group, which is impressive for a big-bore can using a red dot (hog hunting rig).

Versatility

In my opinion this is where the 46-V2 really stands out. It safely handles:

  • Big bore rifles: .45-70 Gov’t, .450 Bushmaster, .338 Lapua, .375 H&H, etc.
  • Straight-wall cartridges: Popular in states with hunting restrictions.
  • Pistol calibers: .44 Mag, 10mm, .45 ACP (with appropriate adapters).
  • Smaller rifles: Down to 5.56/.223 (though sound reduction is less dramatic).

Many owners including myself use it across multiple platforms making it a true “one suppressor to rule them all” candidate for shooters who don’t want several NFA items.

Maintenance

One of the strongest points of the V2 is how easy it is to clean.
To clean the BANISH 46-V2, first ensure the suppressor has completely cooled and is removed from the firearm. Thanks to its Can-Clean™ technology, the suppressor disassembles easily without special tools, although BANISH does have a disassembly tool if you have a stubborn extra filthy can. To start disassembly, simply unscrew the end cap and push the 12 Stifle™ baffles out of the titanium tube. The baffles can then be cleaned using an ultrasonic cleaner, a media tumbler, or by soaking and scrubbing them with a nylon or brass brush and a suitable solvent such as Simple Green, CLR (diluted), or a dedicated carbon remover. The tube itself can be sprayed internally with solvent and allowed to sit, then wiped or brushed clean. Once all parts are free of carbon and lead buildup, rinse them thoroughly, dry completely, and reassemble the baffles in any order before reinstalling the end cap. It is generally recommended to clean the 46-V2 every 50–100 rounds, depending on the ammunition and shooting conditions.

The V2 is the better choice for most people who prioritize light weight and handling. On the flipside if you could find a new old stock/used original BANISH 46 you will get more sound suppression and the option of modularity if you think you need it.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Extremely lightweight and compact for its caliber rating
  • Excellent recoil reduction
  • Very easy to disassemble and clean
  • Strong versatility across rifle and pistol calibers
  • HUB mount compatibility
  • Lifetime warranty + solid customer service from Silencer Central

Cons

  • Not the absolute quietest big-bore option available
  • Direct-thread focused (QD requires extra adapters)
  • Performance on small calibers is merely “good” rather than exceptional

Who Should Buy the BANISH 46-V2?

This suppressor is ideal for:

  • Hunters using .45-70, .450 Bushmaster, or similar straight-wall cartridges
  • Shooters who want one versatile can for multiple firearms
  • Anyone who values light weight and balance over maximum sound reduction
  • Lever-action enthusiasts

It may not be the best choice if you prioritize absolute maximum decibel reduction or already have a modular big-bore can you love.

Final Thoughts

The BANISH 46-V2 is an excellent evolution of the original 46. By sacrificing a bit of sound suppression and modularity, Silencer Central created a suppressor that feels far more practical for real-world use, especially on hunting rifles where weight and balance matter.
It’s not the absolute quietest big-bore can you can buy, but it’s one of the best balanced options available right now. If you want a lightweight, easy-to-maintain, versatile suppressor that tames serious cartridges without making your rifle feel front-heavy, the 46-V2 is currently one of the strongest contenders.  Would I recommend you buy one? Yes,  especially if I were building a dedicated .45-70 or .450 Bushmaster hunting rifle.
Price & Availability:  $1,229 (often with payment plans and occasional rebates through Silencer Central).
